Super Eagles beat Liberia. In pole position for qualification for Qatar 2022

The Super Eagles of Nigeria yesterday defeated Liberia 2-0 in their penultimate game in group C to boost their chances of qualifying for the world cup in Qatar. 

With 2 penalty goals in each half, Nigeria ended the Hope’s of Liberia World Cup qualification. The Super eagles controlled the game throughout, leaving little for the Liberians to cheer about. Nigeria tops  the group with 12 points.

In the same group, Cape Verde defeated  Central African Republic 2-1 to keep pace with the Super Eagles but 2 points behind.

Nigeria will take on Cape Verde on November 16. The match will be the decider of which team qualifies. Nigeria need just a point to qualify but Cape Verde must beat Nigeria to qualify.

Nigeria Super Eagles take on the Liberian National team in the race to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar 2022. The match will take place at 5pm Nigerian time. 

Nigeria lead group C with 9 points followed by Cape Verde with 7 points. Liberia is at the bottom of the group with 3 points. Only the winner of the group will advance to the final round. Mathematically all the teams can still finish top of the group with 2 matches remaining.

Nigeria must beat Liberia in Liberia today to stay in pole position for qualification. Any slip up will be costly and Cape Verde will take advantage. Cape Verde will play the Central African Republic, it is an home game for them which they are and expected to win.

Naira appreciates to around 540 naira to a dollar in the parallel market

Reports reaching us indicate that the Naira has appreciated in the parallel market. As of today 11th November, 2021. The Naira is exchanging for around 540 to the Dollar or less. Before now the Naira has been exchanging for around 570 to the dollar.

The gain of the Naira has been  attributed  to the efforts of the Central Bank of Nigeria ( CBN). The CBN has injected dollars into the economy, dealt with illegal forex speculators, and introduced eNaira which makes it easier to buy dollars at a cheaper rate anywhere you are in the world. 

Analysts says the intervention by the CBN is short term. The overall value of the Nigerian export must increase for Naira gain to appreciate and stabilize

Nnamdi Kanu’s trial adjourned till 2023

Justice Nyako, a Federal High Court Judge  in Abuja has  adjourned till January 19th, the trial of  Nnamdi Kanu. This happened yesterday November 10, 2021

The IPOB leader is standing trial because of treasonable felony and terrorism charges level against him by the Federal Government of Nigeria. 

Kanu was not happy that the security operatives did not allow some members of his legal team, especially his US lawyer, Bruce Fein to enter the courtroom and observe proceedings. Kanu’s lead counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, staged a walkout in protest before the Judge arrived.

Justice Nyako expressed disapproval over the conduct of Kanu’s lawyer. The Judge  adjourned the case till January 19 and 20, 2022 for continuation of trial.

Soludo wins Anambra Governorship Elections

Former central bank governor, Prof. Charles Soludo has won the Anambra Governorship Elections held on November 6. The INEC returning officer of the election, Prof. Florence Obi declared Soludo, the APGA party candidate, the winner.

Soludo contested the governorship election against Andy Uba of the APC and Valentine Ozigbo of the PDP. 

Soludo won 19 of a total of 21 local governments. Soludo won with 112,229 votes defeating Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 53,807 votes, and Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress who got 43,285 votes. Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party polled 21,261 votes and came fourth.

Soludo will be sworn in as governor in March 2023 when the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano tenure, comes to an end.
