Senegal Qualify for Afcon Final

Senegal celebrates

Senegal are through to the final of the African Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2021. They defeated Burkina Faso 3-1 to set a date against either Egypt or Cameroon. Senegal, who have never won the Afcon, have a very big chance to win it now. Senegal are the current top rated football team in Africa according to the latest FIFA rankings.

Burkina Faso’s very good run in the tournament came to an end in the semifinal. They gave a very good account of themselves but the Senegalese team was just too tough for them to handle. The first half of the match ended goalless with Senegal just edging it. Senegal were unrepentant with their fast attack on the Burkinabes defence. They were finally rewarded as the Burkina Faso defence made critical mistakes which led to all 3 goals Senegal scored.

Burkina Faso should be proud of themselves. They had a good tournament. They will have a chance to claim third place as they will play the loser of the match between Cameroon and Egypt.

How Pencils are made

Pencil making process

The writing material inside of a pencil is known as lead. This lead is made from graphite and clay. The graphite and clay are mixed together in the required proportions in the presence of water. The workable lead is then moulded into long thin cylindrical shapes. These thin leads are then dried and fired to reach the required toughness and strength required for writing without breaking.

Typical lead of a pencil is gray to black in colour. Coloured leads can be made by mixing the graphite, clay, and colour pigments together during the lead making process.

After the leads have been prepared, the next thing is to enclose them inside the specially prepared wooden material. The leads are sandwiched between 2 sets of grooved flat and thin woods.

Grooves are cut into a long flat thin wood that can take up to 10 pencils. (10  grooves). Next glue is applied to the surface of the groves. Then the pencil leads are inserted into the grooves. Similarly a long flat thin wood similar to the bottom wood is then used to cover the leads. The leads are sandwiched between the upper and lower wood casings. Pressure is then applied to ensure that the upper and lower wood casings are  fused together holding the sandwiched leads in place.

The wooden sandwich leads are then fed through a cutter which cuts and separates into single pencil units.

The pencils are then engraved, coloured, and eraser inserted at their back end before packaging and distribution to sale outlets.

How glass is made

glass making process

Glass is made up of sand, soda ash and limestone. These constituent materials are mixed together in required proportions and heated up to about 1260°C ( 2300°F). The mixture is molten at the above named temperature. The molten mixture is then placed into mould then pressed and or blown as required to take the shape of the mould.

The hot glass is then removed from the mould and polished to give a smoother and finer finish. Next the glass is then tempered by letting it pass through heat to give it more toughness. Finally the glass is allowed to cool down and packaged.

One of the reasons why glass is cheap is because the raw materials are readily available and broken glasses can be recycled.

How instant coffee is made

Instant coffee granule in cup

Instant coffee is coffee flavour mixed with hot or cold water, add sugar & milk to taste, and it’s ready to drink. You do not need to filter anything as it is done with fresh coffee.  So how is instant coffee made? Below is a summary explanation of the process.

The coffee beans are first of all roasted. Then using high temperature and pressure, the roasted coffee flavour is forced out of the coffee beans using water.

The water itself is then forced out under high pressure leaving only a pasty coffee flavour.

This coffee flavour paste is then frozen under a temperature of about -40°C and still in that frozen temperature, broken into granules.

The coffee granules are then processed inside a system that removes the remaining water inside them, producing coffee granules that are absolutely dry. The granules are then packaged for sale.

How to care for your Electrical Petrol Generator

Caring for your electrical generating set to make it last longer.I will discuss this topic under 4 subtopics namely;

  • Purchasing a good generator
  • Changing the engine oil
  • Changing the spark plug
  • Loading the generator
  • Don’t let it run out of fuel

Purchasing a good generator

If you want your electrical generator to last, then make sure you purchase an original. An original generator that is badly managed will still last up to a year, and if properly managed can be useful for years (  3 years at least ).

A fake generator will last only a couple of months even if properly maintained. A fake generator is called so because it is made up of low quality materials. It may cost less but it usually won’t be worth it at the end of the day. Don’t rush to purchase a generator, take your time to search, check and scrutinize. If you really can’t differentiate an original from fake, sincerely talk to the dealer to give you an original product with guarantee. Be ready to spend more to obtain an original product, it pays.

Changing the engine oil.

This is the main maintenance secret. If you want your electrical generating set to last then change its engine oil every month with good quality oil( that is if you use it regularly). Never run the generator on low engine oil. Before you start your generator, always check the engine oil level using the dip stick. If it is low, fill it up to the required gauge with good quality oil. Don’t over gauge. The engine oil is the life of your machine, don’t run it on low oil, and low quality oil.

Changing the spark plug

All petrol generators are fitted with a spark plug. The Spark plug makes the engine run smoothly delivering maximum efficiency. Most of the time when the engine will not start it is because the spark plug is faulty. Also when the engine is not running smoothly and quietly, the spark plug is usually the culprit. So if you notice that your electrical generating set won’t start, or starts after several attempts, or does not run smoothly and quietly as before, check and change the spark plug if necessary.

Loading the generator.

Generators are rated based on the electrical loads they can handle. The ratings are clearly stated on the body or packaging of the generator. A generator with a rating of say 2.5 Kva or 2.5 kw  means that is the maximum electrical load it can handle safely. From experience don’t load your generator above half of its stated rating.  For instance if a generator rating states 3kva, then don’t use it to power electrical appliances adding up to more than 1.5kva. Doing this won’t put much stress on the engine and will make it last longer.

Don’t Let Your generator run out of fuel

Do not form the habit of letting your generator run out of fuel. If you use a diesel generator then, Never let it run out of fuel because you will always need a qualified technician to restart the engine for you anytime it occurs. If you use a petrol engine; you can still restart it when it runs out of fuel but if you form the habit of doing so, the carburetor will damage quickly and soon you will not be able to restart the generator when it occurs again without the help of a technician.

Should you root your Android Phone?

Galaxy note 8

Rooting a phone means gaining access to some special settings within the phone which have been locked by the manufacturers.

As much as there is gain in rooting your phone, there is also the danger of your phone malfunctioning or even becoming unusable.

Ideally you should not have any reason to root your phone. From my own experience the positives are far lesser than the negatives. Also rooting your phone makes it vulnerable to all kinds of malicious and virus attacks. Your phone won’t run faster than it was when it was unrooted.

One reason why you may be tempted to root your phone is when you accidentally deleted a file and you want to recover it. Most apps you download to recover deleted files will ask that you root the phone. And at the end of the day even after rooting, nothing is found, but you have only unlocked your phone’s security features and are now open to virus and spam attacks.

As Google continues to upgrade its Android system, and the fact that apps can now do functions which before would have required rooting your phone, it has now become largely unnecessary to root your phone.

Most people who root their phones end up damaging it in the end.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t root your phone, but only if you have a genuine reason for doing so.

If you are a developer of android operating systems, you can root your android phone because you want to get the very best out of it and you know what you are doing.

If you are not a developer, just a normal end user, then DON’T ROOT YOUR PHONE!

Just enjoy the phone capabilities as they are or get a better one.
