Paralympics open without fans in the stadium

Paralympics games

The Paralympics games have begun today, Tuesday August 24 2021.In the same National stadium that was used for the just concluded Tokyo Olympic games but without fans in the stadium. This is due to the soaring new Covid 19 infections in the capital.

Japanese Emperor Naruhito got it underway again, with the theme”We Have Wings.” Among those present for the event  were Douglas Emhoff, husband of U.S. Vice President International Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons and International Olympic President Thomas Bach

The opening ceremony was agog with acrobats, clowns, vibrant music and fireworks that ushered in  the start of the long parade of athletes. Over 4400 athletes from all over the world will be competing for honours.

About 22 athletes will be representing Nigeria. Nigeria will be participating in 4 events namely; Para Powerlifting, Para-Athletics, Para Rowing and Para-Table Tennis.

4 things you need to generate electrical energy from the sun

I’m sure you are reading this because you plan to set up a solar system for generating electricity. Or you need basic information on solar system setup. You are in the right place.

Let’s go straight to the point.

Items you need to set up a solar system for electricity generation

1  Solar panel

solar panels

Simply put, solar panels convert energy from the sun into electrical energy. Solar panels are durable. A good one can last 10 years. Cost of solar panels varies depending on size. As of writing this article, the cost of a 100w solar panel is around 20 thousand naira.

2. Solar charge controller

Solar charge controller

As the name implies. It controls/regulates electricity coming from the solar panels. It also helps to charge the battery and direct DC current from battery to inverter. It costs about 10,000 naira upwards depending on size, quality and capability.

3. Battery

battery

The battery stores electrical energy produced by the solar panels and discharges through the inverter when needed. Cost of battery varies by size and quality. A 7ah battery can cost as low as 5,000 naira.

4. Inverter

Inverter

The inverter converts direct current produced by the solar panel / battery To alternating current needed to run your electrical appliances. Except you only need direct current, you will need the inverter. As the others cost of inverter varies by size, quality and capability. A 500 W inverter costs around 10,000 naira.

What is & Maintenance of Internal Combustion Engines

What is Internal Combustion Engine

Internal combustion engine

Do you have an internal combustion engine. The answer is probably YES.

An internal combustion engine uses fuel such as petrol or diesel to generate power/motion.

It does so by burning the fuel internally under controlled conditions. As the fuel is being burnt a large explosion occurs inside the cylinder of the engine (where the pistons are located). Because this large explosion occurs inside the engine this phenomenon gives it the name ; Internal combustion engine. The force from the explosion moves the piston in an up and down motion which inturn transfers power to where it is needed. For instance in a car engine, the force from the explosion moves the pistons which inturn enables the car to move on the road.

The process by which fuel is burnt and the explosion that occurs and consequently the movement of the pistons is a fast and continuous process and lasts as long as the engine is on.

Examples of things that are powered by internal combustion engines are;

Train

Motor car

Generator set ( that generates electricity)

Trucks

Motorcycle

Mechanical power saw

Tractor

Bulldozer

Ships and boats

Airplanes

Mechanical grinder

Mechanical weed cutter

and so on

How to maintain internal combustion engines.

Internal combustion engines are expensive. To make them last much longer, you must take good care of them. In developing good engine maintenance habits, you must note these;

Engine oil

The engine oil is like the blood in our bodies.

Engine oil is necessary to lubricate the engines, remove impurities and keep it cool. Always check the level of the engine oil of your engine and fill up with the same type of engine oil  when necessary. Check around the body of the engine or floor for oil leakages. If you suspect pil leakage take the car for service immediately. Change the engine oil with the same recommended type every 3 months.

Radiator

Bigger engines are fitted with radiators which are used to cool the engine with water. Always check the level of water in the radiator. Also always check for water leakage from the radiator.

Engine sound

Always observe changes in engine sound. If you notice an unusual sound from the engine engine , have it checked by a qualified personnel

Spark plugs

If your engine uses gasoline or petrol  then it is fitted with a spark plug. When engine sound changes, or fails to start, or it is not working as powerful as it used to then the spark plug may need replacement.

Low fuel

Never let your engine run out of fuel. If you are in the habit of doing this; STOP!. Allowing fuel to finish in your engine while running can damage the carburetor of fuel injection. System. For a diesel engine you may always need qualified personnel to start it each time it occurs.

Engine performance

If engine performance has weakened. Then it’s a good  time to take it for repair.

Steps to take after you have just brought a land

There are many reasons why people purchase land. Most people purchase land to build a house or building structure on it. It is expected that a successfully purchased land should be developed as soon as possible.

If you bought a plot of land from the government, developing it as soon as possible is the best way to prevent relocation of the plot to someone else. You will not lose your plot of land but you might now have it in a less desirable location.

In reality it can take some time before a purchased land can be developed. But it’s not advisable to just leave the land fallow. These are some things you can do to keep it busy and discourage people from trespassing or illegally taking some portion out of your land.

  1. You can construct a fence round the portion of land purchased.
  2. If you do not have the money to fence it round you can construct corner pieces at the extremes of the plot
  3. You can farm on it in the meantime.
  4. If you are not farming on it, have it cleared of thick vegetation periodically.
  5. Visit the site periodically noting what is going on around.

Also concurrently, you can start the design of the building with the help of an architect according to town planning regulations. Have the land surveyed according to government regulations (Red copy) Then process  and obtain town planning approval.

On Buying a Landed Property

Buying land is a cautious and serious business. It is not something that should be done in haste. There must be proper investigations as to the history of the land and pricing of  which process will take some time.

I will briefly discuss under the following headings

Apply caution.

Buying land is not a rushing matter. You must take time to investigate and try other options. You must save enough money for transportation costs to places of interest.

Know the original owners of the land and the relationship to the person that wants to sell.

Experience has shown that you will not immediately meet with the real land owners but middle men. Ensure that these middle men tell you the history or what they know about the land. At advance stages of negotiations make sure they allow you to meet with the real seller or owner in person. Feel free to inquire from people living around the area where you want  to buy the land.

Find out the real price of the land.

The middle men will always inflate the price of the land. Smartly negotiate the price with them. If possible negotiate with the real owner of the land.

Check the genuineness of the land at the lands registry.

Before you make payment for landed property, take time to independently check the genuineness of the land at the land registry. If the land already has a red copy survey, it makes the process easier.

Be ready to pay a little more than the agreed price of the land.

After making payment for the land you will also pay the agent or middle men their commission. This is usually a small percentage of the cost of the land. You should negotiate it with them.
