It was Liverpool’s game to win after they went 2-0 up within 26mins at Stamford Bridge. Somehow Chelsea rallied and equalized within 3 minutes of half time to end it 2-2. No goals in the second half.
Chelsea started the game brighter but it was Liverpool that struck first after Chalobah made a mess of clearing the ball and Mane took full advantage and slotted home the first goal for Liverpool in the 9th minute.
Another misplaced pass by Chelsea in the midfield resulted in a counter that left the Chelsea defence exposed, Salah took full advantage and scored from the edge of the goal post.
It looked like it was going to be a routh of goals for Liverpool but they failed to take advantage of a discouraged Chelsea squad.
And then it happened. One of those world class goals. Kovacic Volleyed in from outside the 18 yard box resulting from the clearance of a free kick.
3 minutes later Chelse beat the offside trap of Liverpool after Kante set up a one on one encounter of Pulisic vs Liverpool’s goalkeeper. Pulisic kept his cool and coolly slotted home to make it 2-2 and the end of the first half in an entertaining game of football.
Liverpool had chances early in the second half for both Mane and Salah to help them take the lead but the Chelsea goalkeeper kept them out.
It was Chelse who looked more likely to score the winner late on but were not able to beat the stubborn Liverpool defence.

Chelsea lost ground again in their 1-1 draw with Brighton at Stamford Bridge. Lukaku headed in from close range following a corner kick midway in the first half. But Brighton, who Indeed played very well, got what they deserved after Danny Welbeck headed home from a fine cross in injury time.

Manchester City on the other hand took full advantage of Chelse’s slip up as they extended their lead on top of the table with a 1-0 win at Brentford. Phil Foden gave the visitors the lead in the 16 minute. They indeed, should have scored more. Manchester City are now favorites to win the title with their eight point lead going into the new year. They are on a 10 match winning streak.
