How to care for your car battery

The battery in your car is designed to kickstart your car. It provides the needed voltage to the kickstarter necessary to start your vehicle. The commonly used battery is the sealed lead acid battery. The battery is usually maintenance free and when it wont charge properly anymore discard and get a new one. The lifespan of a typical car lead acid battery is 1-2 years..

How to care for your car battery

Never let the battery run down or discharge completely. Even a single occurrence can severely damage the battery. May sure head, parking and interior light are not on when you park and exit the vehicle. Make sure you switch  off the car completely and no appliance is discharging the battery when you are not using the vehicle.

Make sure battery terminals are well connected.

When battery light indicator comes on in the dashboard, quickly have the alternator and battery checked by qualified personnel

Peripheral electronic devices for use in your car should be used when the engine is running.

If you use a do it yourself maintenance lead acid battery , always check the electrolyte level and fill with distilled water if it falls below the marked minimum.

Your car battery is not designed for inverter indoor use. Using your car battery for this purpose will quickly damage the battery.

Indications that your car battery will soon need replacement

  1. Engine fails to start quickly and smarter than before
  2. Battery Indicator comes on the dashboard
  3. You always have to tighten and retight the terminals a considerable number of times  you start the engine.
  4. White residue on the battery terminal.
  5. Battery always discharges before the next morning.
  6. Battery performance has greatly reduced. Runs down quickly under little load.

A list and definition of professionals you will deal with as a civil engineer

A person trained and experienced in the design of buildings and the coordination and supervision of all aspects of the construction of buildings.

Civil engineer

An engineer trained in the design and construction of static structures such as buildings, roads, tunnels, and bridges and the control of water and its contaminants.

Structural engineer

A registered engineer that majors in structural  design.

Structural designer

An experienced daughter that makes structural designs. He or she may not be a registered engineer.

General Overview on RCC11 Element Design excel program for Design of Reinforced Concrete

RCC 11 Element Design is an excel package used for the design of reinforced concrete structural elements. The structural elements are the slabs, beams, and columns. In other words a slab is a structural element, a beam is a structural element and so on.

RCC11 designs one structural element at a time. For instance, if a suspended reinforced concrete floor consists of 7 slab panels (or juelements), you use RCC 11 to design each slab panel one by one. The same goes for beams and columns.

RCC11 designs to BS (British Standard ) 8110, 1997. You can use it to design slabs, rectangular beams, tee and L beams, beam shear and columns. The software shows you how it arrived at its answers, stating formulas used and calculation process.

The design program doesn’t do all the calculations for you. It calculates steel reinforcement required, deflection check, sizing and much more. For RCC11 to design slabs and beams you need to have previously calculated their design moments on your own. For columns, you will need to have calculated the axial loading and moments. If you are designing the structural elements as simply supported, then calculating the design moments is easy. If you are designing  as continuous, then knowledge of moment distribution may be required. You can also consult the BS code 1997 for simpler methods. If you have free software that does moment distribution; fine.

RCC 11 is a public release version meaning you do not need to pay to use it. It’s free software and one of the best free.

Caution: When raising your Vehicle

Raising your vehicle means to lift up your car at the side (to change tires) or at the front and back (to work under the car).  Vehicles are raised using a jack.  Be cautious when raising your vehicle with a jack as any mistakes can result in serious injury.

Take the following precautions

  1. Do not put any part of your body or get underneath the vehicle supported only by the jack
  2. Always place the jack on a solid, level surface before using it to raise your vehicle.
  3. Do not start the engine while the vehicle is supported by only by the jack.
  4. Stop the vehicle on level firm ground, firmly set the parking brake and put the shift lever in P (automatic transmission) or R (manual transmission)
  5. Make sure that the jack is properly set at the jack point on your car.
  6. Don’t raise the vehicle with someone inside.

How to do an lmage Search on Google ( Mobile)

The Google search engine on your mobile  phone is a portable version but still has all the necessary  features to enable you to perform a good search.

Of course you can still access the desktop version of google search on your mobile phone. However, you may have to do a lot of panning and zooming depending on your screen size.

This article briefly describes how you can do image search using google search mobile.

There are 2 ways you can access google image search. You can either go to google.com then click, images  at the top of your screen. Or, just directly go to images.google.com. Even if you entered image.google.com, Google will still take you to image search.

In the image search bar you can type the title of the picture you want to search for.

Google search engine is very smart. For instance you can go beyond just searching for a type of picture. You can type both the title of the picture and the file type and click search. Let say you want to search for pictures of sand, in addition you also want the file type to be png. Then just type sand png in the search bar and images of different types of sand with file type png will be returned.

You can still go a step further and type; sand png 1280 x 720px in the search bar. The search engine will return different sand images of file type png and size 1280 × 720 pixels.

When you click on an image result, you will be given the option to visit the website that has the picture. If you click and hold the picture, you will be given the option to download the image.

Google has other tools that can help refine your image search. Just take a good look at all the options available. Picking the settings icon at the top left just before the picture results will give you the option of searching only pictures with creative common license. That is, pictures you can reuse without having copyright issues.

Also note that once you perform an image search, other search categories such as videos, maps, books, etc become available.

There is so much more you can do with google image search and indeed google search engine as a whole. I have written this short article to give insight. Feel free to explore google search and get the search you want.
