Making bread at home is a satisfying and enjoyable activity that can also save you money. Here’s a basic recipe for homemade bread:


3 cups of all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon of salt

1 tablespoon of active dry yeast

1 tablespoon of sugar

1 and 1/4 cups of warm water

2 tablespoons of olive oil


  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  1. In a separate bowl, mix together the yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.
  1. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  1. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  1. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  1. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf or rolls.
  1. Place the dough on a baking sheet and brush the top with olive oil.
